  2. You literally can just take farmers/workers and common weapons and win a war. That's how most wars throughout all history have been fought. There's no special class of person predisposed to blow away the competition like a CoD character.

That idea only comes up centuries later by the Romans who also spread such myths that they fed their kids to the wolves if they weren't tough enough. Rather it seems they were reservists like everyone else, and their advantage came from how they were a nation state of five towns rather than a city state.
