Soldiers in the Iraq War also had problems with dust. Iraq's desert sands are as old as the Earth and are ground extremely fine. The slightest wind kicks them up, it's coarse, and it gets everywhere. Even inside air field control tents, computers were found to overheat as the sand somehow managed to get in. Soldiers said they had to clear rifles everyday regardless if they used them because there would always be sand. It'd get in your shoes, inside your pants, and so on and so forth.

Rural Kansan here: The rise of ethanol has driven a lot of farmers to install water pipes so they can turn wheat/soy fields into corn fields. That means the demand for corn is high enough you can make more money with one corn crop than you can with the double crop per year the wheat/soy method offers.

Correction: The not-sugar part of the corn is a high protein mush that makes great cattle fodder. Not wasted.

HESH rounds are mostly used as anti-fortifications since it decimates brick walls and such, but the round most armies carry loaded in the chamber are HEAT rounds since they can be used on almost any target effectively.

The price tag matches.

He didn't fall! He greated the moon with his face!

@robsengahay5614 it is. Humans need a little meat in our diet.

30:30 The reason for this is at high speeds the projectile cuts through the air like a knife rather than push it out of the way like a hammer
9
@oldnick6709 not important
8
@robsengahay5614 I would also have your tongue for fudging facts. Avoiding meat doesn't mean you control what other people serve you and you admitted you ate it routinely after attempting to give it up. And right now I feel like roasting your pets and making you eat them just to prove what they're worth.
8
We should add each rocket costs as much as a civilian car. But since it can easily disable armored vehicles worth millions it's well worth it.
8
Or stop hearing...
8
That is not a nice way to speak of your wife [sarcasm]
7
"Composite materials are made of two or more materials." You don't say!
6
The last two decades of work has been to reduce the price. Also, spaceports and government entities are often backlogged and space launching used to be super high risk back when no one knew what they were doing
5
@robsengahay5614 a hundred bucks says you've eaten meat this year.

Having tried to read Ignition, I can ask why it's so popular as it's poorly written and the author says he didn't any drafting. Since it's organized by chemical types, it jumps around between countries and eras constantly often with no explanation why said chemical was or wasn't preffered. Also he's suppose to be funny but for every one joke there's another gratitous jab against all sorts of people.
5
I make generic early comment, GIVE ME MEANINGLESS UPVOTES!!!
5
@goldenhate6649 don't blame lobbyists, as we all wanted it to happen including you mr. The fact is we tax gasoline and subsidize ethanol, making it artificially cheaper to use high ethanol fuel.
5
Is that a weird joke or do you have a death wish?
5
The amount of cash donated to charity by the US alone is many times that what is needed to "solve world hunger." It's a matter of human vice and logistics, not government budgets.

@stephenleonard8361 Vhut?
4
So many people watched the Apollo missions live ghat Hollywood still hasn't stopped copying iconic shots.
4
@asylumking3642 that not all that fair since two crops a year does the same thing. Getting lots of good crops involve a copious amount of fertilizer.
4
No, but you can win. Ask a preacher how to stop wars.
4
You think they're all spent the day they arrive or something? No, war in the Ukrainian plains involves looking for the enemy for weeks or sitting waiting to ambush someone who might never come. War is actually really boring except for brief moments of horror that come and go in minutes or seconds and are usually determined by dumb luck.

You

Don't you have a math test to fail?
3
You have to get a comment in early if you want meaningless upvotes.
3
Duh. Who's funding you? Potheads?
3
Yeah. War is spending weeks training, weeks in muddy holes looking for the enemy, and then it's all over in a 2 minute fight determined by dumb luck.
3
Fun fact: Japanese smiths went to great lengths to ensure the sword edge was hard while the thickest portion was more mallable. This meant the edge could be sharper while the sword would bend instead of break.
3
It's still working.
3
Because the marines are suppose to be naval infantry but the Pentagon forgot about that for a couple decades
3
Sign you didn't watch the video

To all our enemies who helped create our armed forces, I'd like to say: Tank you.
3
@MrCTruck I said coarse as in rough.
3
The problem with carbon nanotubes is they haven't been invented yet. The longest ever made was like 2 inches
3
That's cheap consumer electronics versus custom made NASA electronics
3
Torgue definitely built these....
3
Have you friggin seen the pictures this thing takes? It's spotted a large hot planet outside the solar system.
3
You don't want to know what they do with recycled cooking oil in China...
3
Not if you know anything
3
Not if you know anything. The chasis is from the late cold war, but literally every piece of it has been upgraded in some fashion. Tankers like me can actually identify the age of a tank by the internals (old ones are switches and dials, new ones have touch screens, middle ones are LCD).
3
Those aren't equivalent rockets.
3
You have have high ridership across its entire life to recover that cost, and you can't just raise the price of a train ticket since people will simply find other means of travel. Ergo, this is only profitable in first world sardine can cities like Tokyo.
3
Please leave military science to those of us that know basic facts about military science.

Depleted uranium. Big difference

Computers are not the issue.
