You're mistaken in one key aspect: OceanGate never had any intention of making money, in fact their no-refund policy stemmed from how customer money went immediately to payroll and when they were no customers they borrowed money in one fashion or another. Stockton Rush was doing all of the inventing, and he was like those degenerate street racers who know they'll die eventually but just want to have fun in the meantime. In Stockton's case, he wanted to be the epic explorer.

It's called a Ponzi scheme

Sht upp. Get drafted

He lied. He did hire old white men because he needed experienced naval engineers, but each of them mutinied when they found out this was a suicide mission. His secretary who nothing of science also mutinied when she found out what she said to the press and what was happening in the dives contradicted each other. Diversity was just a cheap excuse for hiring incompetents who would just get the work done and never learn enough to mutiny.

Dude, he was mostly a danger to himself

Not exactly. You test the invention ON AN INANIMATE OBJECT! Or mice if applicable.

Subs that work are all made by the same companies who have always made subs and are often just part of the work done by larger factories. That's some deep institutional knowledge/funding that no clever inventor with loans from family and friends can beat.

Depends if they have manual backups available. It's the least of their problems, the main problem is that a whole list of design flaws that would inevitably kill the crew were allowed.

Like he said, that was the least of their problems. As long as there's a backup, it works

I don't think you'd know anything about the Navy if we drafted you
