  1. HESH rounds are mostly used as anti-fortifications since it decimates brick walls and such, but the round most armies carry loaded in the chamber are HEAT rounds since they can be used on almost any target effectively.

  8. Not if you know anything. The chasis is from the late cold war, but literally every piece of it has been upgraded in some fashion. Tankers like me can actually identify the age of a tank by the internals (old ones are switches and dials, new ones have touch screens, middle ones are LCD).

To give you an idea how stupidly effective the long rod armor piercing rounds are: We tankers are taught to shoot those at nothing besides tanks because if you hit an grenade proof truck or something similar it will pass right through it, wasting its potential. We have explosive HEAT rounds for those medium armored targets.

  67. Uh, no. Tanks do the opposite and seize key areas. They tend to be sitting ducks on the defensive side. Traditionally, in a defensive action they send the tanks to the enemy's rear to monkey wrench his plans.

  73. Well trained? When I was in we were too busy brawling and spreading lies about each other to git gud. Also, during Iraq/Afghanistan there were a lot of TWOTs (Tanker WithOut Tank) because while idiots in charge kept the tanks on hand just in case the tankers were mostly doing grunt infantry stuff. "Professional armies" refers to pay rate, not skill.
