Rural Kansan here: The rise of ethanol has driven a lot of farmers to install water pipes so they can turn wheat/soy fields into corn fields. That means the demand for corn is high enough you can make more money with one corn crop than you can with the double crop per year the wheat/soy method offers.

Correction: The not-sugar part of the corn is a high protein mush that makes great cattle fodder. Not wasted.

@robsengahay5614 it is. Humans need a little meat in our diet.
23
@oldnick6709 not important
8
@robsengahay5614 I would also have your tongue for fudging facts. Avoiding meat doesn't mean you control what other people serve you and you admitted you ate it routinely after attempting to give it up. And right now I feel like roasting your pets and making you eat them just to prove what they're worth.
8
@robsengahay5614 a hundred bucks says you've eaten meat this year.

@goldenhate6649 don't blame lobbyists, as we all wanted it to happen including you mr. The fact is we tax gasoline and subsidize ethanol, making it artificially cheaper to use high ethanol fuel.
5
@asylumking3642 that not all that fair since two crops a year does the same thing. Getting lots of good crops involve a copious amount of fertilizer.
4
You don't want to know what they do with recycled cooking oil in China...
3
@redneckpyromania6965 that's the sign you don't know the first thing about farming.
2
@c7zr179 no one in the first world is going to starve because of ethanol. Long before then, the price of food would exceed the price of ethanol
2
@TheAkashicTraveller you're a little low on the food chain to be giving diet advice
1
@robsengahay5614 you really are living in your own little world one way or another, as this is all baseless extrapolation from what you suppose to be true or want to be true. And I really do think your psyche will benefit from seeing your pets spill their lives from their throats onto the ceiling. So shut up.
1
@robsengahay5614 I'm not crazy, I'm just a jerk that likes Poe style horror. You know that some Indian tribes during winter would coat their skin in bear fat before putting on coats in order to get more insolation? Think about that next time you complain about someone's furry parka.
1
@robsengahay5614 the Indians used natural resources wastefully because there wasn't enough of them to deforest anything. Again, you're making stuff up as you go along because you have no idea what you're talking about, and liars burn in hell. So shut up, airhead.
1
@davidthosome623 you think these fools know a thing about the science they hold as god?
1
@chistinelane I'm just a jerk. Pipe down.
1
@conors4430 there's no industrial/ag process in the universe that doesn't "add to climate crisis" to some people. I once saw an unironic report that cow farts contribute to global warming.
1
That's not really a problem. The part of the corn not used for ethanol is fed to farm animals.
1
THere's many types of biofuels
1
No. I don't know about palm oil but with the corn, the part that's not turned into fuel is used as cattle fodder, so not a fraction as wasteful as this guy thinks.
1
@skz5k2 it makes no difference as the wasted energy goes into cows.
1
@toutlaw2431 come on, you and I know you'd say that regardless if it were true. And I was there when ethanol finally became cheaper then regular gas.
1
@maxmustermann-cy9zn I KNOW. It depends what field you're using as to what combo works best and my farming knowledge is finite.
1
@TheGor54 spy boys?
1
@CowMan897 that's probably a ripple effect. Plus there are a million more uses for soy now then a century ago. But I don't know what all soils are good for.
