Some of it was needed for bribes, some of it was probably stolen, and some of it was probably used for even more hairbrained investing schemes.

It's worse than that. These real estate startups are using funds from pre-orders to fund construction. In any civilized country this is impossible since the funds would be deposited with an escrow for safety. But in China this system allows allegedly serious corporations to take on Wallstreetbets level leverage and either get rich quick or (more likely) crash and burn. Most of the time, just random dudes will get all the pre-orders they can, hire a contractor to build around that, take all the profit if they win, or leave the buyers with the bill if they lose.

That occurred with limited results.

@YoKnow No, it's because if it were actually true I'd finally have an opportunity to kick ass.

China, the country, is running a Ponzi scheme.

@LSmoney215 Dude, there are literally no rules what the courts and banks can and cannot do to the bankrupt consumer. Generally they'll just seize assets, but there are historic cases where repeat offenders were jailed or executed for bankruptcy.

These idiots consider real estate startups with a couple hundred temp employees to be "to big to fail."

Dude, this guy gets ad revenue and donations. That's how YouTube works, gong fei. Like other China-centric YouTube channels, the host here is a first generation American and ethnic Chinese, hense his familiarity with the language and writing.

@alhazred3718 No payment is necessary. There's plenty of egotistical bastards abusing VPNs.
