There's 100 times more private equity now than in 2000 and volatility is strangely high even during good times recently. And VC firms and angel investors have there hands all over literally every major fraud and bubble in recent years. Kathy is no exception, as s sizeable portion of her fund's investment are venture capital into "disruptive" firms.

But at these idiot tech startups you often have separate marketing, research, film crew, writing, accounting, HR, correspondence, PR, and so forth. Managing work takes as much time as doing work with routine meetings, repetitive training session, and nothing happened if it wasn't documented. Oh yes, you can trust them more because dozens of 23 year olds pitched in to make those garbage editorials. It's like what Zuckerberg said about his own company. "It's just managers managing managers."

  38. Lebanese banks are also basically loan sharks as what rules there are in Lebanon are never enforced and most banks are ma and pa ventures (literally). The banks don't trust each other and refuse to cash each other's checks because the only thing more common than hot checks is paranoia about hot checks. This forces people to rely on expensive wire transfers, and they are generally unable to withdraw money as the banks are systemically insolvent and even if there was bank insurance the government would not be able to pay since they are also insolvent. Banking in the turdworld...

  44. Town squares? Odd thing to think that's where politics was argued. It use to be taverns, cafes, farmers markets, and guesthouses (travelers would swap news while passing through). In fact, a lot of early derivatives trading happened in taverns, and back in the day a lot of people would attend church just to socialize.
