  1. Something the video left out: At trial it would come out the politician managing this wasn't very bright. He was personal friends with an investment banker and would buy any product offerred. The investment banker assumed the politician knew what he was doing because of his office.

  3. The fund manager was a politician, and kinda dumb. His friend, the investment banker, assumed he knew what he was doing and proposed all sorts of products. The politician would take anything offered. The city council thought this was a way to make a little extra cash, and wasn't intending to do anything risk (they told the fund manager to invest in bonds).

  5. Dude, lose the sour grapes, a year in jail isn't a slap on a wrist. if you did this to your family's retirement account, you'd more than likely face no legal consequences whatsoever. If an ordinary broker did this, they'd lose their license. This idiot, however, was motivated by genuine lack of intelligence.
