Until they default on debt and/or the gang leaders end the truce.

They buy more.

@fusion9619 found the wannabe conman
3
meaning it costs the Salvadoran government money
2
namely because dumping that amount of coins is all it takes to crash a market which can only survive on artificial scarcity.
2
@Prutprout Except factor in front running, margin calls, and above all the artificial scarcity. The free float of most cryptos is tiny as most people hold them as an investment rather than as money.
2
@Prutprout That's highly misleading since Coinbase services all the coins they can. And have you seen the daily volatility with this junk?
2
The idea younger people are more tech savvy became obsolete when the smart phone was invented.
2
vhut?
2
@fusion9619 You're a liar, too
2
This is what happens when an autist/gangster sets fiscal policy
2
Electricity isn't cheap enough in Salvador for that to be profitable. Remember, you're competing with firms that are abusing government subsidies for energy in many countries
2
GDP isn't the national budget
2
Because that's who got elected.
1
It's not who colonized, it the local culture.
1
@Dwightstjohn-fo8ki vhut? You mind making sense?
1
That's silly. We don't bail out men like you.
1
I wish I could buy a credit default swap on Salvadoran bonds.......
1
@chris0000924 that makes no sense. The IMF doesn't even charge enough to make a profit, and they literally just left fiat currency.
1
Yeah, meaning they did this nonsense when they couldn't afford to lose
1
They're also buying the dip on their own bonds, so it looks like they're abusing their money printer.
1
I've heard fools trying to sound hip use the English "goat" to mean "cool," though....
1
@MPDthegamer one out of thirteen Salvadorans is on the payroll of an MS-13 affiliate, so quit bullshittin. And the word on the street is the truce was made with gang leaders who run things from prison (Salvadoran jails are more like exile than incarceration).
1
@northerngamingygo4274 Even if that is true, and it probably isn't, it changes nothing.
1
Quantum computing is just something physicists do for fun and will likely never have any practical application.
1
Except China's bank run means they can't loan out more
1
username isn't accurate
1
Those goons were ordinary people trying to look official. This is a head of state trying to look hip.
1
What you talking about? Fools have been blowing away national budgets on stupid stuff since the bronze age
1
no
1
they don't want to
1
It's a country run by gangs of all sorts. Not a surprise
1
@chris0000924 lower risk than any other currency to ever exist.
1
@chris0000924 as if you could name any.... And deflation is just as bad or worse than inflation as it causes hoarding (no spending and no investing). Also, a lot of currencies are pegged to the dollar, other countries have dollars traded on the streets as much as their own currencies, other countries (like Italy and China) set their inflation a little above the dollar to encourage exports abroad. What you really want is a currency that is stable, as in not doing anything that the central bank did not announce would happen well in advance.
1
@id10t98 I have never left the US for even a minute, unfortunately. That's irrelevant, though
1
@chris0000924 they're good, but they're not globally diversified kind of good. Matters that occur in Switzerland (like a major natural disaster) will tank the currency and bonds. The fact they targer an inflation rate of zero is irrelevant.
1
@fusion9619 What dollar outflow? Currencies aren't ETFs, they don't have market caps. Are you confusing outflow with inflation?
