Two words. Mean reversion. Even if the current split proves permanent, people will just find alternative sources eventually.

Caveat: Cost of living is dirt cheap in Eastern Europe. I.E. housing costs little, gas costs little, wood costs little, food costs little. Man for man Russian living standards are like the rest of Europe. You see this pattern repeated on a less extreme level with the urban vs rural parts of America.

@andrewestbrook4473 define "abject poverty." Yes they are quite poor by first world living standards but it's not so bad by global standards.
