Town squares? Odd thing to think that's where politics was argued. It use to be taverns, cafes, farmers markets, and guesthouses (travelers would swap news while passing through). In fact, a lot of early derivatives trading happened in taverns, and back in the day a lot of people would attend church just to socialize.

Most moderators are actually contractors that work for a company that gets contract to moderate (READ: mods get fired for any reason at any time). They actually don't pay very well, either. And volumes of stuff to sift through means a lot of casual mistakes can be made.

I wouldn't even bother reading some idiot politician's demands if I owned a company.

@oiinahgiiusadurrybrahchuck7209 dude, we're talking history. Back pre-19th century people would hang out at restaurants and bars on the weekends. Hotels usually had restaurants attached and you can imagine this was where gossip spread. Soapboxing was not a metaphor. Also before radios people would spread opinions by passing out pamphlets and nailing them in public places (a literal public post). Martin Luther did exactly that when he nailed his 95 thesis.

@oiinahgiiusadurrybrahchuck7209 I simplify my life by ignoring it as much as possible. I don't even know who's running for midterms.
