Sudan has been at war with itself in one way or another for its entire history.

Extreme crime rates. It's easy for gangs to form within the government.

@mr.meesicks1801 sure, bribery works wonders in Sudan and Washington could easily do that, but have no illusions that whomever loses the elections in Sudan will start a war.

It never wasn't Balkanized.
3
If we did that, would you complain that we got into yet another "useless war?"
3
You ask the wrong questions about the Neighborhood Resistance Committees. Are these gangs armed? What are their relationship to each other? What methods do they use to sponsor these protests? Who's in charge of these gangs? Are they just using protestors as human shields or are they running an assassination/bribery campaign too?

5:00 Mobs still assemble despite the manslaughter? Someone is looking for a fight and favorable headlines, that's for sure.

@notorio526 what's that got to do with anything?

@asternoah5534 Kenya has had a coup since decolonization and there's plenty of crime in South America. It isn't a perfect correlation, but it is a clear correlation. Local geopolitics are more important than anything else, as coups are most common in independent states undergoing a succession crisis of one sort or another. There's also a correlation between crime and poverty too.

@JaysonT975 OP and I are both American.
1
@asternoah5534 they were still officially at war with the rebels controlling Darfur until this last year.

@asternoah5534 by that standard you could count this current period as peaceful as these events only effect the residents of Khartoum. An archeologist friend of mine who was in the north of Sudan was actually unaware al-Bashir had been removed when she got back. On that note notice it is often hard to tell how much fighting there is in Sudan as often the Sudanese themselves don't know what's happening outside their area. In one case, roaming bands of pirates straight up stole many farms in rural areas and we only knew about it because there were expat works nearby to tell about it.
1
@asternoah5534 don't assume you know everything that's happening in country.
1
@asternoah5534 why you berating me as if you think this is some sort of heated argument? And yes, you got angry when I brought up something you hadn't heard of before. And it's frankly hard to get any accurate info on Sudan so who cares.
1
@asternoah5534 just because it's the internet doesn't mean you need to berate everyone. I just happen to be a historian that specializes in a totally different continent, so pipe down.
1
@asternoah5534 you've been on the internet too long and are being much more toxic than you realize. Take a break.

The UN has no army of its own.
1
No one in Sudan will be satisfied unless they personally hold the reins of government.
1
GO spread your BS elsewhere.
1
Don't be silly. The US isn't God and we frankly have no reason to give a rip about Sudanese killing Sudanese. The UAE, on the other hand, couldn't possible have organized this. Take it for exactly what it looks like: Sudanese people fighting over power.
1
There was never any question how this would end, as all the talk of civilian rule and democracy was always just BS to gain power.
