  2.  @kyleucarer4471  from what I understood it cost more to create artificial diamonds than they're worth. I.E. a barrel of explosives can create a few dollars worth of microscopic diamonds.

  3.  @kyleucarer4471  you seem to confuse artificial scarcity with high demand. And diamonds are rare in that you have to sift through tonnes of material just to find a pea sized gem.

  4.  @nobody6032  a google search and back of envelope math says the world produced roughly 25 tons of diamonds a year, with only 20% going into jewels and 25 billion pounds of materials mined to find them. That's rare by any standard, but there are rarer gems.
