I just point out that all protests meet the legal criteria for "harassment" and that should be taken as the motive of protestor. That opinion got me kicked from Imgur due to literally dozens of people following just so they could abuse the report button. For weeks.

Or at least how a modern Brit thinks that stuff worked. Life back then isn't quite what he thinks.

@valerieprice1745 Yes, people generally didn't starve but much of human life was spent getting food and shelter. You were considered prosperous if you weren't miserable during certain times of the year.

They envy the rich.

Correction about pre-industrial farms: Yes the pay was terrible, but people often didn't even use money. Instead they made everything themselves from scratch. I.E. Sewing and breadmaking was considered an essential skill among women and woodworking and other trade skills were considered essential among men simply because no one had the money to pay other people to do this stuff for them. THESE SKILLS WERE VALUED ABOVE LITERACY.

@canna roe 17th century Britain wasn't any more religious than it is now. And larger family sizes was a necessity because of all the children dying.

About the "breadline," when Adam Smith canculated minimum wage, he wasn't basing that on a matter of what was "fair." He was basing that on how much money a man needed to get food, shelter, and clothes for himself and four children assuming the wife and two of the kids were working. Also before the railroad "lean years" were common because poor harvests in one area could not be fully compensated by additional imports. It wasn't uncommon for people to spend 90% of their income on food during spring.
2
More importantly, the poor wages were slightly irrelevant since most household goods were made at home from stratch.

SIDs. Sudden Infancy Deaths. Still a mystery why they occurred, but it's thought they were mostly preventable illnesses.

Left and right are only relevant to each other within a given government. For instance, the Erdogan regime in Turkey criminalizes gays, intervenes in economics regularly, and have some state-run enterprises and yet is considered centrist. The reason? In Turkey, "conservative" means Islamist, while "liberal" means Americanized.

Near all travel ceased during the winter, I think that's what he meant.

@jacktheaviator4938 before the train was invented, everywhere

@stevewatson6839 TIK is most concerned about pre-industrial economics than anything else

@cyngaethlestan8859 lean years in spring is a fact of life before rails

@derduebel Not if you have any idea what either of those things are.

Neither of those guys were big on free markets. But I see what you mean that US conservatives idolize the early US government.

@greyfells2829 land is expensive regardless of era. Industrialization and automation brought down the cost of consumer goods and services but not real estate

More often they're used to fraudulently equate their internal political rivals with external military rivals. For instance, baseless allegations that Mr. Trump and Mr. Biden committed treason and voter frauds by working with foreign nationals to get elected. Yeah, I said it!

Don't blame food shortages on "statists." Life was/is generally very hard in the pre-industrial world.
1
It's a modern guy's perception of what life was like back in those days. No need to be rude

I say we draft you just for saying that.

You really don't need that disclaimer at the beginning. Anyone calling you a Nazi would do so even if they knew for a fact otherwise.

Because they aren't. It's just a new coat of paint on the same old junk.

Come on. People complain about first world poverty even today in America even as they buy premium foods and get high speed internet they don't need.
