I've seen much more bizarre coalitions. There are wars characterized by allies sabotaging each other's ceasefires in order to ensure their "friends" keep fighting while they sit on the sidelines.

They probably aren't even aware of that war

Germany wasn't really all that late to industrialize.

Japan only seized some small ports and sat the rest out.

The term totalitarianism was specifically coined to include both of them.

They have some coptics, they got an indigenous "Holy Orthodox Church," they had Catholic missionaries, at the time they had Jews, they had some Muslims, and they had many pagan religions. It varied wildly from town to town and province to province in the rugged terrain.

Japan didn't care about wars in Europe. It was just an opportunity for them to expand.
2
They sure as hell didn't hate the church

@vercot7000 I mean Japanese histiography

Screw those games and everything they stand for.

5:55 The quote is bullshit. Mussolini intended to impose a type of colonialism on Ethiopia akin to modern stereotypes of colonies. Britain and France never did that. Also, the Fascists didn't care about imposing Catholicism on account they killed/imprisoned most of the missionaries in the area because their teaching wasn't in line with Fascism and because a lot of them sheltered guerrillas. Even the Bishop of Ethiopia was assassinated.

@dragosstanciu9866 During the Russian Civil War and allied Japanese and American for invaded Siberia (yep, that happened). Even then they abandoned most of Siberia since it was too remote to hold onto, and the odds and ends they kept they were driven out of later in small skirmishes.

@MrAbhix7 Not a lot. The Soviets only managed to move small numbers of soldiers before Japan surrendered, but the fact they were coming contributed to Japan's surrender as much as the atom bomb did.

They were produced by the same thing. Rampant speculation and excessive leverage.

There were several unification wars.
1
Japan's unification ain't like the other two. Japan has broken up and reformed many times over its history and it industrialized abruptly when they were forcibly opened for trade by the US.

Shut up. Get drafted

There's nothing right or left about these gangsters.

They literally didn't, on account that the church was introduced to Greece and Italy by the Apostles Peter, Paul, John, and I forget which others. The church reached Ethiopia around the same time via a single Ethiopian dignitary who converted early on.
1
@JoeyJoJoJrShabbado Almost. The church wasn't of significant size before then, but according to Luke there was one Ethiopian who converted when he traveled to Judea. No idea what happened to him.
1
@antmikedavis The church reached Rome before it reached Armenia on account that Peter went there.

@miniaturejayhawk8702 shut up

They aren't giant peak industrial states, so no one cares about them. It's like how according to the embassies from every country, the interior of the US doesn't exist. Seriously, I had to drive 10 hours to Chicago just to talk to a diplomat!

Because Fascist is an insult and the speaker doesn't know the most basic facts about Japan. It's mostly Chinese Communists spreading that bull.

@user-pn3im5sm7k Who is you?
1
The idea that Imperial Japan had anything in common with any European state...
1
They aren't working together.
1
@robertdickson9319 The Arabs did more than that, and those guys were just a mob of pirates.

He was vegan for personal reasons, not because he liked animals.
1
Ha. You should see the middle east.
1
@dragosstanciu9866 Depends how you define Axis. However, that's a moot point since everyone was fighting for their own reasons.
1
Vhut?

Ha! Roosevelt sent food and bullets to Russia for the express purpose of keeping them fighting instead of making a separate peace. China wasn't a country and the warlords fought each other as often as they fought Japan and in Washington they argued whether to indiscriminately ship arms or only give them to troops working for Chiang Kai-Shek. Several native government officials of British colonies actively sought out an audience with Hitler in order to defect including Amin al-Husayni and Anwar Sedat.
