Caveat: Much of the general public in the west was oblivious to these problems even as evidence surfaced so I wouldn't say "the allies knew full well," but you have to go case by case to see what decisionmakers knew what and when (mismanagement is just as deadly as malice).

Technically this was after the war with repatriations but it certainly was awful. I wonder if this had anything to do with how in the Korean War the US insisted that refugees and POWs be repatriated wherever they wanted and not to their hometowns.

Come on, even if we didn't repatriate anyone it would still be referred to as a "war crime" because Stalin is full of it and American/British Socialists regurgitated anything he said.

@TheImperatorKnight In all the cases we know of they were, and it matches the known statistics and official writings. And yeah, a lot of them were internally exiled to "closed cities" where no foreigners were allowed and many were kept on probation for extended periods. Pretty crazy, but it's easy to exaggerate, especially as I said much of the public on both sides the iron curtain seemed oblivious to these problems.

When my grandda was a POW in Germany he was friends with some of the guards and they said "why we fighting each other. We should fight the Russians."

@alexanderryan1176 no, V2 rockets

There were many seriously bloody prison riots which showed just how messed up it all was. Although we do throw the term war crime around arbitrarily, though.

No conspiracy necessary, just sometime allies/enemies. Recall the allies sent tonnes of war materials to the Soviets to ensure they stayed in the war. Also, the general public was oblivious to this at the time, and IDK to what extent the decisionmakers were aware of these troubles.

On the contrary no one will shut up about them. Name one that isn't wildly overrepresented by the sources.

@dwarow2508 these guys weren't Nazis. They were conscripts with 2 months training doing their jobs. Grandpa told people some of the guards refused to even talk to the prisoners, though.

@dwarow2508 "murder less people" is a meaningless assertion during a world war and internal war, herr Commie.
1
@Chud_Bud_Supreme it doesn't matter what you think. Nor does it matter who is "worse" when the intention was to murder both commies and Nazis.
1
@МихаилЧерников-п2т you know that ain't true
1
Over the former Axis, yeah. Not against the Soviets. If it makes you feel better the US totally ripped off the German rocket program even though it was within the Soviet lines.
1
@alexanderryan1176 there was a very real possibility of a third world war, yes. That doesn't mean we could extort them like we did the Shah of Iran.
1
@alexanderryan1176 pipe down and quit being rhetorical.
1
@TheImperatorKnight I was referring to the repatriations. I won't give an opinion over anyone's actions during a prison riot (even if it shows just how ridiculous the situation had gotten).
1
@dwarow2508 because that's the main cause for TIK's indictment.
1
@dwarow2508 I think you lost track of this conversation.
