In fact, one Chinese diplomat arrived near modern Kuwait and he was searching for the Roman Empire he had heard rumors of, but due to the language barrier, he got the impression he'd have to sail around the Arabian Peninsula which due to weather could take as much as a year, so he turned around. There's one reference to a later Roman Emperor receiving a diplomat we think was Chinese, though
