There is very little manufacture or technical jobs in Turkey and most of what they have is either foreign run or run by men with foreign educations (Turkish schools range from rudimentary to fraudulent). Most middle class persons work for these foreign businesses and a large portion of government revenue comes from them whilst much of life continues the same as it did during the Ottoman era. They largely import finished manufactured goods and skilled labor whilst exporting natural resources and cheap labor. The effects of this can be seen in their military hardware as they have to seek a developed nation that will sell weapons whilst being in proxy wars with literally every last one of them. Like most countries in the Middle East, Turkey is as much a turdhole as Africa but works hard to maintain the fraudulent image of a "middle income country."

You think anyone in Turkey knows how to manage currency?
17
The nepotism is strong with the Turk...
15
@denizylmaz3363 and yet all the currency reserves ended up in some fool's pocket.

Literally no one was there to tell them destroying bills increases the remaining currency's value. But either way what the ceremony shows is what they WANT to do, not what they have any chance of accomplishing.
2
This is a product of nepotism and embezzlement, not free markets.
2
The crypto markets that opened in Turkey were all scams. The websites "went down" and the men running them fled the country.
2
Bottoman Empire Ankara never did that
2
Except you're in a country where the currency is under control.

@coimbralaw nice rhetoric. Now leave Turkey to those of us that read about Turkey

This isn't a matter of politics. It's a matter of systemic incompetence and corruption
1
That requires large cash reserves, and Turkey lost all theirs because the oligarchs stole it.

@_RTX2060SUPER_ that remark does nothing for no one

John Wayne should have, but this is an area with insanely high crime rates. Including some known cases where parents sold their daughters into forced marriages. Also, a crypto market boomed in Turkey when the inflation started, and each and every one of them turned out to be scams. Reports of routine beatings among the armed forces abound. As for the defense industry, there really is no way to hide it. Their rifles are mostly German and American make, and the ones made domestically are licensed copies of said guns built at a few factories that hire European engineers and the biggest thing they've built is an APC. You can see the exact point where NATO help ends, as they don't know how to use the mismatch of weapons as shown by the highly inaccurate fire and extensive use of tanks in static and urban roles. The air force generally plays no role at all, as they purged most of their NATO trained pilots.
