  3. Strange error when there are so many dam collapses in China to choose from. Most of them were built in the Mao era at the same time the US and Soviets were damming rivers so, of course, China tries to one-up everyone at the expense of human life and massive amounts of money. Many of the dams did not have engineers involved, others had no stated purpose for their construction, others simply had neither the budgets or or time to be built right. Ten thousand were built, and dozens collapse every year since.

  9. I'm usually forgiving of corporations, but in this case it's clearly systemic negligence from the whole company including the union. Even a child could tell you "If that thing breaks the lava falls on us, let's find a safe way to do this in case it does."

  20. There's more reasons than that. One is the government owns the land and local governments get a lot of their revenue from leasing it. No one builds anything meant to outlive the lease. Also, housing/construction is the only industry not dominated by state actors with unfair advantages so it's loaded with ponzi schemers as there are no limits on leverage
