  1. That's Assets Under Management (AUM), which is a pretty arbitrary number. First there's double counting as your money invested in a Blackrock fund is both your money, your broker's AUM, Blackrock's AUM, and part of a corporation's market cap. And that's just if you invested in a simple index fund, as more elaborate investments have been found where one dollar was counted 12 times. Also, America's savings does not equal America's GDP. GDP is our approximate income per year, while the total amount we have saved up is ambiguous. Also, these index managers are all global companies that own and manage shares anywhere where shares are sold.

All US real estate is worth 16 TRILLION dollars, so unless a company is going to have a market cap by far exceeding the US GDP there's no possibility of that happening. And even if someone could try that, they'd be breaking anti-trust laws. Even then, they'd just be landlords and not governors.

  30. ESG standards are notoriously arbitrary as every company and every individual has wildly different standards and conflicting ideas about why it would work. But of course Blackrock is into ESG, because ESG funds sell a lot of units, making Blackrock money off fees.
