  2. @Misclaneous  I ain't joking. This is LITERALLY the case. As in every decade people predicted we were two decades from fusion for the past 7 decades.

  4. @TheShreester  funding is not the issue, the laws of physics are the issue. Namely that nothing can remain solid at fusion temperatures. One experiment was to use giant magnets to squeeze plasma, but it was found this method alone wouldn't generate fusion, but it is still used today to keep the reactor cool.

  6.  @steveetches6013  With scientific progress you can guess how long it will take to resolve known issues, but it's the unknown problem that will trip people up. Only rarely are all obstacles known, and usually more problems are found which may take time to resolve or may be physically impossible. Then you got science magazines who post total guesses based on previous rates of progress in a space.
