@tzinanechumah Conisdering flight wait times, driving to and from airports, and getting authorities on the phone and such it wasn't too much of a diplomatic delay. Although... It would be nice if they could have simply driven across Syria.

@Peyp59 There are more Turkish Jews in the US than Turkey. Last count there were under 15000 in Turkey and near 19 times that living in Israel. And like the Ottomans, the Turks often equate race, religion, and nationality. Like how they created a Turkish Cypriot state despite the island have a greater connection to Athens than Ankara.

@Peyp59 Loyal to the caliph? Even the imperial bodyguard had to receive massive bribes and their defection killed many Sultans. This is to say nothing how incompetents were often deliberately installed so lesser officials could seize control behind the scenes. Of course, the real state of affairs was hidden by how the Ottomans would throw away whole armies to take symbolic victories, so most governors did not officially rebel until it could no longer be hidden (for instance, Egypt was under Britain's de facto control for decades with an Ottoman flag flying until WWI). Why you have so much sycophancy for a time period you evidently care nothing for?

What does it have to do with conversions at gunpoint? What does it have to do with executing the whole male population of villages? What does it have to do with shifting the majority of taxes onto the minority of the population? What does it have to do with vandalizing synagogues and churches? What does it have to do with pressganging men to be "soldiers" then putting them to unpaid work in for-profit ventures? What does it have to families starving because everyone refuses to sell them bread? What does that have to do with hanging previous governments for crimes that the accusers themselves were involved in?
