Simply put: Israeli elections are not winner-take-all and they vote for a party, not a politician. After the election, different parties have to meet together to form a coalition that accounts for a supermajority of electoral votes. Most parties in Israel are small, so this means elaborate negotiations are needed to sort out which bigwig gets which high office.

These idiots think US midterms reform the government. Also, Israeli left and right have little to do with the American left and right, and most Americans don't have an opinion on Israeli politics.

@dovidell some states deliberately set the threshold for getting an MP high and threshold for forming a government low. This creates winner-takes-most elections and when combined with legal censorship, vague security laws, and bribery then the elections are rigged in favor of the incumbant. The nation I speak of has a series of coups every time the incumbent dies, so you see how crazy electoral systems can be.
