@brucebennett4274 You do realize everything you see around you dates back decades development wise? That's the pace science moves at.

@brucebennett4274 except if you watched the video you'd know there's more to the rocket than some handmedown engines. Also, you do realize that until a couple years ago most of the routine space missions were being done using old Soviet rocket engines, right? They built them in bulk during the space race when the whole world thought we'd have a moon colony right now, only to sell them for peanuts after the USSR fell. Likewise, we're still using the same space suits from Apollo. Why? Because they work great and this stuff is expensive!

Just because similar concepts existed in the 90's doesn't mean there were no improvements

Fitting it all together was more complicated than you think (the orange foam is actually quite the invention). Also, there were bureaucratic delays, like how Congress required NASA to maintain the ability to revive the shuttle, hense all the gratitous backwards compatibility.
