The United States has limited, and continues to limit, Japan's ability to build up its military.
America is greedy, so it is highly questionable whether Japan is actually improving its defense capabilities commensurate with the military expenditures it has paid.
Most of Japan's military systems are purchased from the United States, and to put it simply, the operating systems are also made in the United States, so Japan has no choice but to purchase most of its weapons from the United States.
Therefore, Japan, which must comply with the FMS agreement, is forced to purchase outdated recycled weapons at several times the price.
And even after Japan pays for the purchase, the United States often does not hand over the weapons.
For example, an Osprey delivered in 2023 is scheduled to be discontinued in 2025, even though it was ordered nine years ago.
Half of the tomahawks that Japan's current prime minister recently promised the current U.S. president to buy are obsolete.
Under these circumstances, it is difficult to imagine that Japan will be able to secure a defense force commensurate with the defense expenditures it has paid.
