Maybe this was already pointed out in the comments. Danes builded a factory for the Madsen's production in Russia, in 1916. . Later it was known as "Kovrov machine gun factory", the place, where Vladimir Fyodorov and Vasily Degtyaryov worked.

AFAIR, it was about Russo-Turkish War of 1877–78. Specifically, the Siege of Plevna. I think in this case the big role was played by the persistence of the Turkish troops and the mistakes of the Russian command, rather than the presence of rapid-fire rifles
