@PainterVierax That guy knows nothing. He thinks liberalism caused the technological development of the 20th century. No, the 20th century was a time of unprecedented growth because of petroleum and the discovery of all its uses. It was a cheap source of fuel and chemicals, so cars were first invented, so they had a long way to go; technologies with a long way to go benefit greatly from competition much more than mature technologies. Before century 20, the steam engine was a new way to harness energy. That also caused so much development.
Development isn't due to liberal policy; it's due to cheap sources of energy. First was the invention of steam power, making coal much more than a way to heat homes. The 20th century was the petroleum century.
Nowadays, we're getting poor because we're extracting all the easy and cheap oil. We have to frack nowadays. Besides, climate change is causing its own problems. Solar is cheaper than fossil today, but not when paired with batteries, but though it may become cheaper than what we have today, it won't be enough to spur a new revolution of economic growth- we already invented all the different types of electric devices, and making a better electric car won't do much to change life how cooking or heating homes centrally with gas did (an electric car is like a petrol car; it doesn't fly or do anything special).
The future of the economy is modesty, not growth. It will be like the Middle Ages; we'll be growing gradually, if at all, but not experiencing the explosive growth of the 20th century or even the Industrial Revolution.
I believe energy is the reason for our poverty. Peak oil.

@decus9544 It would be good for Korean society to have 2 kids per family, but not good for the individual families who can't afford to do that.
In all non-Muslim countries, people aren't having families because they can't afford to have them. In Muslim countries, people have families, but it isn't doing much for the sanctioned, bombed, corrupted, etc economies. Egypt's fertility is too high, which will lead to starvation, since they are too poor to import wheat in crises, and they can't grow enough to sustain themselves, and their diet is mostly wheat.
Iranians on the other hand have slightly less than 2 children per family.
