What's the diff? American companies must also surrender data to congress if push comes to shove and National Security 'laws' are used against them. In fact, even without evoking National security laws, Apple, Google and Facebook entertain 10s of thousands of govt requests each year and they comply with many, many of them.

@kushcapone and of course you have evidence of your ludicrous accusations?

@totesmcgoatz3365 no. That's not true. In fact, most American companies are wholly owned in China. There used to be JV requirements in certain sectors like finance (for obvious reasons), auto (for both tech transfer and workers protection) and a few more but most others don't have that. JVs in such other sectors or transfer of tech are totally voluntary. Even for those once restricted sectors, the barriers are no more. Jp Morgan owns its Chinese business 100%, so does Elon Musk with its Tesla Gigafactory and Apple Dell, GE etc

@DeedoDoop Google, Facebook and YouTube were given a choice to abide by local laws but they chose not too.. Simple. Google voluntarily exited about 10 years ago which they regret to this day.

@Lena-vw6ye Musk invested in many Chinese companies besides NIO and Warren Buffet also in BYD. American companies also invested in Alibaba, Baidu, Tencent and many, many others. Decoupling is shooting yourself in the foot. Oh.. And Bytedance/TikTok too!
