@tooltalk they were not 'forced'. They were asked to take on a local partner BEFORE starting. In return they would get market access from a well connected local company with local distribution knowhow. They had a choice. They made tons of money over 30 years

@tooltalk not true again. The original batches of Teslas had Japanese batteries and qualified too. What brands and models do you know that didn't get subsidies because of 'foreign batteries'? Don't just come up with theoretical arguments like you seem to do all the time.

Can DW please tell us what subsidies BYD and its customers enjoyed that Tesla and theirs didn't? Consumer rebates for EV (which incidentally is no more) were available for any EV manufacturer, both domestic and foreign.

German and European cars still enjoy good standing in China, the world's largest car market. It is not too late for them. But they have to go on the offensive and not try to hamper Chinese automakers as a strategy. That is an American playbook. Instead, Innovate, localize and price to sell.They already have the distribution network and service centers all over China. Build something to sell!

absolutely not. If you know something, be specific about it. In fact, when Elon Musk thought about building a Gigafactory in Shanghai in 2018/19, the local Government which was then led by the current Premier of China, bent over backwards and rolled out the red carpet for Musk. He got cheap land, massive tax breaks, cheap electricity and the govt even helped Telsa hire construction and factory people. BYD had none of that. @bck0001

@davidbeckenbaugh9598 and the US does not 'control' military producers like Lougheed Martin and Boeing? The US government tells them exactly whom to sell to, how much for and when. It even tells them to add political conditions to the sales.
