  1. For 30 years, German car makers made money hand over fist in China without much complaints. The minute they are faced with strong competition in a totally different segment, all kinds of complaints, accusations etc start coming out. The JVs allowed them to sell millions of cars to the chinese state and consumers. Something they would not have been able to do alone on such a scale. Chinese EV makers would not only love having a state sponsor in the west, but they would potentially not be discriminated against in terms of access, bans, 'national security' excuses etc

The foreign companies make profits on all the inputs going into cars made by the JVs. Think and try harder to use your own words next time, eh

  6.  @Orly453  how did China 'receive tech transfer' from tesla? EV makers like BYD has been in this line even before Tesla and certainly way before a single Tesla even arrived in China. Does Tesla make the all-important battery? In fact, Tesla uses much Chinese tech in its cars. The only tech where Tesla may have a lead is Autonomous driving software. And that's not a priority for most EV buyers. China isn't India. It has a robust University system, R&D and industrial sector. Look at EV and battery patents filed globally.

  7.  @camocas  German high speed train? High speed train was invented in Japan! But today, chinese HSR tech is ahead of anyone, including Germany. Over 50% of all global HSR patents are Chinese. Are you saying since car was invented in the US, German cars today are all copies?

  9.  @frankries3741  no. German cars are still highly regarded in China but they are not good in the EV space which China is. I think there is a small window for German cars to come back but won't be open for long. and only if they can get their EV act together.

  10. What technologies? German cars are years behind Chinese EVs. All the important parts are Chinese made with no German equivalent, like the crucial battery and software.

Of the German invented the modern card, does that mean the American, Japanese, French, Italian, Korea and British cars etc are all copies?? That's what the dude posited
