  1. Car manufacturers were compelled to do joint ventures but sharing IP was not obligatory. And for decades VW, BMW etc made money hand over fist in China. In fact, up till recently, over 40% of all new cars VW made globally were sold In China. They can't blame China for being slow to embrace EV. They were right there in the chinese market and the facilities the govt gave to EV makers and their clients were for both domestic and foreign makers! Look at Tesla in China. Roaring business.
