  1. Actually, you can't compare China with 1.4B people with Japan or the US in terms of overall GDP per capita. It will obviously take a long time to pull the majority of the 1.4B, especially rural folks, to rich country standards BUT if you look at many of the large cities where still 100s of millions live, their GDP per capita (especially by PPP) is already at Japan's level or in fact, more. So all China needs to do is to get people to spend and have the rural parts richer and it's GDP will at least double in no time. However, getting Chinese to spend is easier said than done. Not having a western-style safety net is not the only reason. The culture is one of saving for a rainy day and for your children/family. . Been going on for millennia. How do you change that!?
