It will be tough. Even in automobiles manufacturing, China is now the world leader in both output and efficiency. Telsa's China gigafactory is head and shoulders more productive than its factories in both US and Germany. Same story for VW. It has some to do with China being the largest car market also.

@tooltalk can you be more specific how the chinese govt 'blocked' the South Koreans battery manufacturers? Korean companies were never major players in battery.

@tooltalk EV batteries, buddy. Keep up with the times.

@tooltalk and I bet you used to also denigrate the Japanese and the Koreans back in the day.

@tooltalk nope. They aren't for EV batteries except Panasonic. Keep up.

@tooltalk really... Try to get up to date. Here to help you. Published in Nikkei... "OSAKA - China is increasing its presence in the race to develop replacements for the lithium-ion battery, a Nikkei analysis shows. A country-by-country tally of patents related to post-lithium-ion batteries over the past 10 years shows China in the lead, accounting for more than half of all patents. The evaluation of patents for sodium- ion batteries, perhaps the biggest horse in the race, also shows China dominating Japan and the U.S., with Chinese companies expected to begin mass production of these batteries this year.*
