@alfredepding974 agreed. The figure came about from a small circle of Indian academics. But there is no denying that the Brits looted India. When they came, India's share of the global economy was over 20%. When they left, it was 3%. Even if you adjust for the industrial revolution out of the UK after they colonized India, that's a pretty startling stats. And on top of that the industrial revolution itself would not have been possible at the speed it arrived without the colonies (including India)

@elliekwong3180 many public institutions that Boston and New England at large still have today were financed by Opium money made from China in the 19th century. Hospitals, Museums, Schools, Transportation etc. Slave traders cum Drug dealers like Thomas Perkins were high profile donors to the city. And when you imagine that the Americans only controlled 10% of the China opium trade, imagine what the UK did with the other 90%!
