  2. Using the USSR or even China itself in the last few decades to extrapolate how the world would be if it were to become the preeminent power is not the right way to think about it, IMO. You could go study the many dynasties during imperial China spanning over 2000 years to get a better glimpse. There were many long periods of time when it was the preeminent power then.
