  1. I think...every generation sucks at parenting and there's always been awful, neglectful, abusive parents who would do the easiest thing to get their kids to shut up. Before, it was physical abuse, drugs, TV, dumping your kid outside unsupervised all day, video games, and pre-social media internet. Now, the easiest go-to is a personal device with the entirety of the festering, designed-to-addict internet and it's looking like unlimited, unsupervised internet access at an early age might be just as damaging as giving your kids drugs. Which is terrifying.

  2. ​@elizrebezilmadommdo1662 Nah, my mom's been a para educator for almost 20 years, and I almost can't believe the behaviors she's describing. Kids assaulting teachers, cussing at them, unable and unwilling to follow the simplest directions. And these are elementary school students. Even the kindergarteners. And there are zero consequences for students now, like, actually. No detention, no suspension, no expulsion, kids are rewarded with sweets at the principals' office, parent's don't care or actively accuse the teacher. There's been a noticeable decline for years, and the pandemic just poured gasoline on the fire. It's just insane. These kids are so screwed and it makes me so sad. I'm in the northwest US, by the way.
