  2. Easy: America worships money and people believe meritocracy is real, therefore rich people have to be geniuses and highly competent because they have a lot of money. This is so deeply ingrained in our culture that it would completely upset people's entire worldview and concept of justice to admit that might not be true. And humans do not like to challenge their deeply held beliefs. Because it's bloody hard.
