Romania had no love for the Axis, but the territorial losses in 1940 forced Romania to join the Axis. The Romanians were Anglophiles but also feared the Soviet Union.

Very few (in Europe and America) talk about Japanese atrocities because they don't care, but those atrocities are well known in Asia.
11
@Mrstrangert392 But I doubt they know about the Nanjing massacre and Unit 731.
7
How so? The US became a superpower after the war. So, what did the Americans deserve?
6
It was logical for Antonescu to know before Mussolini. Hitler didn't believe that Italy is needed for Barbarossa. Hitler hoped for a fast victory against the USSR. Romania was much more important, since the Romanian army would participate from the beginning and Italy was stuck in Egypt and needed German help there.
5
Finland was not part of the Axis, it was co-belligerent against the USSR.
5
Seriously? The Jews were less than 1 % of Germany's population in 1933. The Nazis needed a scapegoat for Germany's economic problems.
4
No, things would not turn out different, the Allied Powers too would become stronger, they would not wait for Hitler to stockpile weapons.
3
Although Hungary and Romania hated each other, they joined the Axis because they both hated communism and the USSR.
3
Before Tojo there was Konoe, he was prime-minister when Japan invaded China and Japan became a member of the Axis. Tojo and Konoe share responsibility for leading Japan to war.
3
How did it happen? What did you learn?
3
The Japanese army was already fighting in China. An attack on the USSR would have overstretched the Japanese army. The Navy however was very powerful and believed that it can win the war against the US Pacific Fleet.
3
@genehornung3295 It would have been a humiliation for Japan to withdraw from China. Japan's national pride would be destroyed . China would claim a huge victory and continue the fight against Japan.
3
But at least we Europeans know that Ethiopia is located in East Africa.
3
Who would have invaded Italy? Britain and France did not want to invade Italy, not even after Italy invaded Ethiopia and annexed Albania.
3
And if Mr P does not nuke Britain, what then?
3
Hitler was a threat to Poland, Czechoslovakia, the Balkan countries, Ukraine, the Baltic countries. Thus he had to be stopped.
3
@grandcanyon-pg2px IJN and IJA had separate nuclear programs that went nowhere, because the IJN and IJA were more busy fighting each other politically, while the US had the Manhattan project that had a positive result in a relatively short time. The Germans were far from obtaining a single nuclear bomb even in 1942 at the height of their conquests.

2
Not quite, Japan bombed the USA after an oil embargo on Japan started, and that oil embargo came after Japan invaded French Indochina. Thus if Japan did not invade China (1937) and French Indochina (1940) there would be no oil embargo and no bombing of Pearl Harbor later.
2
@Noperare Or perhaps Hitler became overconfident, and underestimated the impact of the US entry into the war.
2
Well, at the very least they wanted a new world order.
2
So, you're done! When are you gonna' bring them to Nuremberg? Do you know where they live?
2
If Italy was not sanctioned and remained a friend of Britain and France, then perhaps a chain of events would start and Germany would make an alliance with the USSR.

The flag of Manchukuo.
2
Very difficult. The French and British people were opposed to war in 1938, even in 1939. Even so, when the Rheinland was re-militarized the German army was ready to make a fighting retreat if the French mobilized, perhaps the same would have happened when Germany annexed Austria.
2
@kevingates503 No, ordinary Romanians were not, but the Iron Guard was.
2
@tophernolastname2378 Japan wasn't forced to align with Germany because of the oil embargo, the embargo came all the way in 1941 after Japan invaded French Indochina. Thus, if Japan did not invade China and French Indochina there would not be an oil embargo. Asians did not want a Japanese Empire to rule them. Japan aligned itself with Germany because they were afraid that Japan would be dominated by the USSR or the USA, Japan wanted a bigger empire.
2
@Mrstrangert392 History enthusiasts is not enough, the general population must know too.

Japan could not attack the USSR, the Japanese army was fighting in China, and the Red Army in Siberia had better weapons, especially tanks, thus the Japanese army would stand no chance against the superior Red Army. Also the distances involved and the logistics favored the defenders.
1
@howardmctroy3303 The Battles of Khalkhin Gol (1939) showed that the Japanese army is no match for the Red Army. After Barbarossa began the Soviet weapons factories were moved beyond the Ural mountains, and they produced more and more weapons, tanks, planes. There were few Japanese weapons factories in Manchuria, therefore the Siberian Red army would still be armed to fight, while the Japanese army would still depend on weapons received from Japan Even in a two front war the Red Army would win against the inferior Japanese army.
1
@grandcanyon-pg2px The only thing in Imperial Japan that was superior to the Red Army was the Navy. The Japanese army however was inferior to the Red Army. The Soviets had far superior tanks, artillery, trucks, logistics and more troops.
1
@grandcanyon-pg2px The Soviet Union had one of the best aviation institutes in the world TsAGI, it had far superior tank development, and it had the biggest industries in the world. In 1939 the Soviet Union had the biggest air force in the world and the most numerous tanks.
1
@grandcanyon-pg2px You cannot have industrial power without superior minds, the USSR too had many scientists and did much scientific research.
1
@grandcanyon-pg2px Yes, they suffered way more casualties because in 1941-1942 they used wrong tactics. It took them some time to adapt. The Japanese too used wrong tactics against the US and that cost them way more casualties.
1
It was gone because Germany was preparing for war, the "tranny ideology" did not help in the buildup for war.
1
Sure, horrible consequences, like Western Europe becoming very powerful economically, the USA becoming a superpower, African decolonization and more rights for women. Truly horrible. LOL!!!
1
Romania, Hungary and Bulgaria were not opposed to liberalism, even though they were part of the Axis, they were opposed to communism. Japan and Nazi Germany were opposed to liberalism due to their totalitarian racist governments.
1
@jussim.konttinen4981 Yes, because Italy invaded Ethiopia in 1991. Obviously Jussi .
1
When?
1
@genehornung3295 Japan had a huge oil shortage after the US started the oil embargo. Attacking the USSR would be pointless for Japan, since Siberia did not have the oil Japan needed.
1
@genehornung3295 There were no oil fields discovered in Siberia in the 1940s. Only later in the 1950s and 1970s such oil fields were discovered.
1
@genehornung3295 The US started the oil embargo before Japan attacked Pearl Harbor not after. The embargo started when Japan invaded French Indochina. Japan needed the oil from Indonesia (Dutch East Indies), thus the US Pacific Fleet had to be eliminated first.
1
@bennconner1195 He shouldn't have been allowed to gain power in the first place, no matter his economic and racial theories. The guy was mentally disturbed.
