  3. The thing people are forgetting is that studies are not facts they are hypothesis tests and interpretations of data, they are always behind the data. But anyone can and should look at the real data and judge for themselves if those initial studies are actually representative samples of the whole. Because no matter what a confidence interval is (if you know what a type I and type II error is you already know), if the sample is not representative it is not going to be accurate for the broader context. The scientific method is fantastic. But it isn't some diety to worship blindly. Take a moment to think, and realize you know conclusions by professionals can be wrong. They have been wrong, and they have changed many times. Not just during the pandemic but since the creation of the scientific method and they will continue to make mistakes and amend their conclusions.

  14. Damn. But ultimately if we don't participate in resolving the world's issues we can't expect the world to give us a bigger voice. Especially since we are relatively small in number compared to many other countries.

Here's the thing people don't understand, Guns are expensive to manufacture so most of the firearms used by individuals for hunting were originally designed for A millitary at some point (not even necessarily in the same format). Similarly, when a country goes to war it tends to source firearms from wherever it can, so even guns that were built entirely for hunting/sport have been used by a military or police force at one point or another. You don't Even have to look internationally for that. In WW1 Canada bought locally made 'Ross' sporting rifles for their military. It is unfortunate reality that there are legitimate necessities for firearms in Canada. Ours is a country filled with dangers and remote land owners who cannot rely on police for their personal safety. The world is not some Utopia, we cannot burry our heads in the sand and pretend bad things don't happen. There is a war in Ukraine right now between two large 1st world countries. We cannot rely on someone else to save us from a bear, you can't even guarantee the Canadian government won't jail you for defending yourself against a r@¶!$+. I don't like people dying, I know it is most often avoidable, but this law isn't even talking about that. We are talking about firearms that aren't generally used by criminals, making a show of banning them and ignoring the hard problem of actually reducing crime, and preventing would be criminals from accessing the guns that are already illegal. Plus they aren't interested in deliberately excluding airsoft which fires plastic pellets as a competitive international sport. A sport that is even legal in countries that outright ban all guns.

He says he will, and yet when brought up it is brushed off. One gun was used one time, what's next banning pillows because several psychos smothered someone?
