  1. Q8 may be a surprise to some engineers but that's pretty basic for business/entrepreneurship. Prove the concept, start with one focus, but have others planned, establish reliable sales, and expand as you hit those milestones. Quite frankly it's a component of a business plan. If companies are getting investment without a logical approach, send the money to me because I can come up with ideas with no plan too.

  2. Yes, patents are good but then the information becomes public. Best to patent key components and keep things a secret for as long as possible. Because once it is patented it's public and all someone needs to do is change it just enough then run with it. But if you launch your product first they then have to overcome the barrier of an established competitor
