took the train from chicago to los angeles... was the best time ever.. .lol! trains are a much better way to travel if you have the time... a lot cheaper than flying, too, unless you're in the sleeper cars, ofc.. lol.

@ronclark9724 it would be cheaper for roomettes... lol... and always, always, always bring food and drinks on board in coach or business!

bet they recommend not smoking around or in these cars, too... lol. nothing like driving around in a mobile bomb... takes road rage to a whole new level. interesting car, for sure... wonder if it still works after a c.m.e. or e.m.p.? mostly it will be the pre 1097 cars that still run if either of those happens.

@ronclark9724 its a big difference in price for the train, tho... lol... $55 one way for coach seat, ~$1500 for family sleeper car for one way (the biggest sleeper room), there is a business class option for ~$85 one way- its the same as coach but no kids.. lol. most people sleep in coach class on longer trips, just louder sometimes.

when we stopped in denver (1990), we ran to a local liquor store and bought booze...spent the rest of the trip in the (then) club car drinking and playing cards.. lol. club cars had booths and served alcohol when open... cafe cars replaced them, i believe.
