This was a very painful one to me. But instead of "literally," I've taken to saying "truly" instead.
I take offense at the word "bling." (even my Autocorrect doesn't like it.) I am sad people don't remember that "glitz" means the same thing.
I also take offense at "could care less." no explanation needed. But it does remind me of a time when a lady mentioned she was "two sheets to the wind" and I laughed saying, "so you were not completely drunk?" (It's "three sheets to the wind" to those interested.)
Unfortunately those are on their way to being skunked completely.
I'm also sad the words I, like you, have been using had been previously skunked, and I'm using the skunked version. (Nooooo!)
But if I don't use the words that are skunked, then there'll be no words left to use!
Maybe I go overboard on this, but if I've written a word that I know has been skunked, I'll use the "right" way, and then I'll follow it up with a sentence that clarifies my meaning, I hope in natural conversation without being pedantic, making word vomit, or info dumping.
