It certainly makes for a more spectacular trophy than a notch carved on your weapon of choice!

Just as well. Halloween used to net me such a haul as to last beyond Christmas. That's even after my parents had checked my candy when my sisters and I came home. After that, they would would pick their favorite and declare "Tax!" That would dismay all us kids, but it was an excellent teaching moment for when we grew up. The IRS takes seemingly the most delectable portion of your income, and it seems like such an unfair withholding. This happened at Halloween, but also when we had pizza: Dad would bite off the most topping - covered point of the pizza. Or when you ate the crust of a sandwich, he would bite off that delicious center. All the while declaring, "Tax!" He never did that with money. He would "borrow" that. (He was never a good risk.) As a parent, tho, he truly was entitled to it, and it rightly was the taxable income of the head of household. (Still is.) What is it that book by Robert Fulgam is titled? Everything I Needed to Know I learned in Kindergarten.

@kevinwaterman389 My Grandpa would give out a single piece of good, chocolate candy and a quarter to each kid. He got 2 rolls of quarters for this Halloween routine, and from the quarters that were left, he would determine how many children came to his house. He loved seeing children at Halloween!

And yet you can get a battery - powered tea light to put in a carved pumpkin. No more candles to burn down the place! Isn't that a lot better?
