  1. Blood of any animal (including us) is ripe for any microorganism to grow in it. In fact, while there are different agar mixtures used to identify or culture different bacteria, fungi, or viruses, if something doesn't grow in any of these growth media (like HIV), they are cultured in agar mixed with blood. If it doesn't grow in that, then agar mixed with lysed blood cells (blood cells that have been opened up) will grow the mystery organism.
