Aaaaaaand I was wrong. I never thought about a transformer putting a gap in the electrical wiring, but it really does! So when I first learned about electricity and the electromagnetic spectrum, I knew that em waves moved at the speed of light. So I thought electricity moved at the speed of light through the wires. Not quite. Not in the wires, but around the wires, and still energy that travels parallel to but independently from the wires. Then the "one electron pushes the next - the next - the next," chain reaction, and that it took longer than the speed of light. Now it's good to know the right answer.
