  1. I knew there was something stupid about the Fallopian tubes being open to the abdominal cavity and the ovary a "mile" away! There's no guarantee the ovum will get caught up into the Fallopian tube. The tube being open to the abdominal cavity allows for endometrial regurgitation. And there's nothing keeping the ovum from missing the tube and, for all we know, implanting in the external endometrial cells. Close those tubes up and that wouldn't happen. Why couldn't the ovaries be inside the tubes? Granted it wouldn't prevent ectopic pregnancy, but it could prevent leakage problems. Goes right up there with the recurrent laryngeal nerve.
