Why protect cases regarding Constitutionally free speech? Because protection of speech is the absolute FIRST right an American citizen has. This is the one release valve Americans have that keeps this nation together. You can say, "The president is a fink!" without repercussions. People can have opinions of the most extreme nature and can express them without having to worry about being dragged off and never heard from again. The right to Constitutionally protected speech gives rise to every single right spelled out in the Constitution including right to a trial by peers in a timely fashion. And every right in the Bill of Rights and Amendments stems from free speech. Constitutional free speech is the basis for our country and built into our founding documents. While this right is enjoyed in many other first world countries, I would challenge anyone to find this principle spelled out in their country's founding and/or prevailing governing documents. This, I think, is the difference between America and other countries.

Doesn't shopping for venues also require having a lawyer who is licensed to practice in that state? Some lawyers in Louisville, KY are licensed in KY and IN because Southern Indiana is home to a sizable population who can work and school and do commerce in Louisville. I'm sure there are lawyers in Northern KY licensed for KY and OH, and for KY and TN. And I'm sure that because extreme Western KY houses a maximum security prison that there are lawyers licensed in KY, MO, and IL.
