@OptimusPhillip I'll have to look that up. I know plasmodium is a big bunch of protoplasm with myriad nuclei. I was thinking if plankton lived in colonies they'd be connected to one another as seaweed is but individual cells. In the Tierzoo depiction, though, the individuals are free-floating, and I think I might be forgiven for thinking they are one-celled without researching the particular species.

You don't have to be in the volcano or atoll to be affected by a nuclear blast.

KFC's touting of eleven herbs and spices that were secret (but include salt and pepper) was a great campaign, but it wasn't the secret to Harlan Sanders' success with Kentucky Fried Chicken. KFC got to be successful in the fast food business because of pressure cooking his chicken. And while he was alive, Col. Sanders (not a military Colonel but an honorary title: a Kentucky Colonel) would visit the franchises to do quality assurance.

Objection! Ignoring what the audience knows about the case, it's possible to have such an obsession for something that one ignores their injuries. In the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA, who re-create the Middle Ages), I do know of a case where one Knight got extremely drunk and refused to stop fighting in the lists, though by the rules he should have given up the use of one limb or another because of a heavy blow. At the end of his fighting he had truly sustained heavy injuries and had to be taken to the hospital for them. (This is rare because of the rules of fighting in the lists.) Yet his countenance had not changed throughout.
