Rishi ''I have friends who are aristocrats, I have friends who are upper-class, I have friends who are. . . working class...but err...well, not working class'' Sunak. England, you're well and truly screwed.

@colinanderson3834 : No problem. I should also add that I am well aware that large numbers of the electorate in England do not vote for the Conservatives but with the FPTP system currently in place, they are often forgotten about. Time for PR. Edit in response to your edit: I disagree that Scotland is equally screwed; at least it has a chance of a different future if independence is gained.

@colinanderson3834 : All of the English people I know are in favour of independence. I realise that's anecdotal evidence, but I wouldn't be so sure that English-born voters now living in Scotland would be the main contributing factor swaying the next referendum outcome to be No. If you have access to research showing the opposite to be the case I'd be happy to look at it.

@zigzung5569 : I don't vote Conservative: never have. The system in place is designed to put these kind of people in power. I'm more than happy for that system to change while you (judging from your comments so far) seem to want to stick with the status quo as if it's perfectly reasonable.

@zigzung5569 : Sounds like you are simply making excuses for out-of-touch multi-millionaires who feel they are entitled to make (awful) decisions on behalf of an electorate that they largely have nothing in common with. Why should this be viewed as normal?

@zigzung5569 : I'd be reasonably happy for the Green Party, or a radically reformed Labour Party to be in power post-independence in Scotland, yes. I've also also mentioned that I'd be in favour of voting reform across the country asap. In terms of policies that are more specific, seriously trying to make a transition to renewable energy sources, tackling the collapse of ecosystems, combating a culture based on greed and entirely unsustainable accumulation of capital, UBI to allow more people to be creative and not be exhausted from working dreadful, underpaid menial jobs would all be a good start. These are things that can take place (in Scotland at least) that the Conservatives don't even want to entertain.

@colinanderson3834 : Yes, England. Scotland, for one, does not elect Tory governments and is seeking another independence referendum next year in case that story had bypassed you.

@auldfouter8661 : While I think it's true that BoJo was good for the independence cause, as others have already pointed out, his successor is likely to be worse in many ways (even if being a clown-like character doesn't come to them quite as overtly) so I wouldn't be so sure that support for a Yes vote will dwindle any time soon.
