Apparently 20,000 slaves were sold to the Ottoman Empire from the are every year for a little over 2 decades. Atleast thats what kyivian sources claim. Cities sacked and peasants kidnapped but kyiv never gave up or surrendered like muscovy and Novgorod. Their resistance lead to the formation of the Cossacks. People from all over eroup hoined the slavs, settled along the river and built forts. Traded with the local Slavic people and defend the area from Mongol and Crimea incursions.
